Social media marketing at Cafe tibbles

Cafe Tibbles was a gorgeous independent coffee shop, located down a hidden narrow track in East Sussex. Overlooking a nursery which boasted homegrown vegetables in the summer, and a field of yellow daffodils in the spring, with a view of Bewl Water Reservoir in the distance. It was perfectly peaceful, and was very quickly loved by the local community.

Shortly after finishing Uni, I got a job at Cafe Tibbles as a barista. After a few months of perfecting my latte art and drinking just as much coffee as I was making, I started to become interested in the cafes social media presence (or lack of it). I began talking to the owner, and asked if I could take the social media side of things into my own hands, as I knew the cafe had so much potential. The cafe had only been open for a few months and so it really was like starting from scratch.

From there on I was constantly taking pictures, designing stories, writing captions, filming the chefs, engaging with followers,  and collaborating with  local businesses like our coffee supplier (whilst still drinking endless amounts of coffee and perfecting my latte squiggles of course).

Some facts & figures...

Since taking over in September 2019, I increased the cafes following on Instagram by over 150%. A few of the cafes posts have been reposted onto Instagram pages with over 16 thousand followers, and towards the start of 2020 we began to attract the local blogging community. Some with an audience of over 7000.

The Cafe opened in May 2019, and had reached over 1200 followers by April 2020. Between the 6th and 12th February 2020, the cafe's Instagram reached 2601 different accounts & between 30th January and 5th February 2020, 10,411 impressions were made on the cafe's Instagram.

What happened next

Well, by early 2020 the cafe was thriving!

The local community were regulars and were constantly telling us they had recommended the cafe to others. We even had people from far away telling us they saw us online, and wanted to visit.

Every day the owners and the chefs would think of new cake ideas, and healthy recipes, that would attract more and more people. The cafe was going under some super new renovations, and we had even begun hosting supper clubs, which were also a great success.

Unfortunately, Cafe Tibbles suffered the same fate a lot of wonderful small businesses did this year. COVID 19 soon made it impossible for us to stay open, seeing the permanent closure of the cafe, just after its first birthday in May 2020.

You can still view the cafes online profiles. To do so, please go to @cafetibbles on Instagram.
