In Summer 2018 I had the opportunity to be part of the volunteering committee at ValeFest music festival.

ValeFest is the largest student-run arts and Music festival in Europe. It is based in Edgbaston, Birmingham, and on this year, sold out to its capacity of 5500 people.

With a headline set from Fickle Friends, and other main stage performances from the likes of Marsicans and Little Comets ValeFest witnessed its biggest year yet.

My main roles for the day included general site runner and artist liaison at the artist entry gate.

Being a general site runner was great as I got to see everything from a behind the scenes perspective. I helped Marsicans with directions, transported palm trees for Fickle Friends, helped Only Shadows with their equipment, and was just there as a general point of information for anyone who needed it.

My time as artist liaison was by far my favourite though. I was the initial point of call for all of the artists who were performing, as it was my responsibility to sign them in and direct them from there.  This role allowed me to practise my communication skills with industry professionals, and experience the responsibility of a role that massively interests me as a career for the future (A&R).

My day at ValeFest lasted for 20 hours, yet felt more like 4. It taught me how fast paced and unexpected the Events and Music industries can be, and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
